Cambridge University Hit by DDoS Cyberattack

Cambridge University and several UK universities were hit by a DDoS cyberattack, disrupting internet services and access to IT resources like CamSIS and Moodle. The attack, claimed by Anonymous Sudan, was in protest against the UK's support for Israel. The incident, impacting the Janet Network used by the universities, follows a similar cyberattack on the British Library. Cambridge University has since resolved the issue, with most services restored, although some minor disruptions may persist. This incident underscores the ongoing cybersecurity challenges faced by educational institutions and the need for robust mitigation strategies to protect against such attacks.

** A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) cyberattack floods a target's network or servers with overwhelming traffic from multiple sources, making it inaccessible to legitimate users. It can disrupt businesses, institutions, and critical infrastructure, leading to significant downtime and potential loss of data or revenue. Due to its capacity to paralyze essential services, a DDoS attack is considered highly dangerous and disruptive.
