Why We Exist


Every generation of computing has required a new approach to security.


Early cybersecurity focused on protecting individual computers from known viruses. As organisations became interconnected, attention shifted towards firewalls, network security and identity management. More recently, the industry has invested heavily in technologies designed to recognise malicious behaviour after software has begun to execute.


These approaches have undoubtedly improved security, but they have not altered a fundamental characteristic of modern computing. Once unauthorised software is permitted to execute, organisations are forced into a continual cycle of detection, investigation, response and recovery. Each new generation of threats has been met by another generation of detection technologies, creating an increasingly complex security ecosystem that continues to struggle against an increasingly sophisticated adversary. We believe there is a better way.


Abatis exists because we believe cybersecurity has reached an architectural inflection point. Artificial Intelligence, increasingly complex software ecosystems and growing concerns surrounding operational resilience and cyber sovereignty are exposing the limitations of purely probabilistic security models. Organisations require greater certainty over what is permitted to execute within their environments, rather than continually attempting to interpret behaviour after execution has already begun. That conviction has guided our work for more than two decades.


The principles behind Deterministic eXecution Integrity (DXI) are not recent ideas. They have been developed, refined and proven through continuous operational deployment across some of the world's most demanding environments. Throughout that period, the underlying architecture has evolved alongside successive generations of operating systems, emerging threat actors and changing computing platforms whilst remaining true to the same deterministic principles upon which it was originally conceived. We believe this continuity matters.


The cybersecurity industry is characterised by rapid product cycles, frequent acquisitions and continual architectural change. By contrast, the original architects responsible for the development of the Abatis technology continue to guide its evolution today. The philosophy that inspired the original design remains embedded within the engineering decisions that continue to shape the platform.


This continuity has produced an operational record of which we are immensely proud. Over more than twenty years of deployment, the core deterministic execution architecture has accumulated no published Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), and we are unaware of any publicly reported breach of a protected environment attributable to a failure of the technology itself. We regard these not as marketing claims, but as evidence of the discipline, engineering rigour and architectural simplicity that have guided the platform since its inception.


Our technologies have been developed to support organisations operating in environments where operational resilience is essential, including defence, Critical National Infrastructure, transportation, financial services, industrial control systems and government. These organisations share a common requirement. They must continue operating, even in the face of sophisticated cyber threats.


As governments and enterprises increasingly prioritise resilience, regulatory compliance and cyber sovereignty, we believe deterministic execution control will become an essential component of trusted digital infrastructure. Our ambition extends beyond developing cybersecurity products. We believe Deterministic eXecution Integrity represents a new architectural layer within modern computing, one that restores authority over software execution alongside identity, networking and encryption as a fundamental principle of secure digital systems.


This vision guides everything we do, from research and engineering through to our partnerships with governments, academia and industry. We do not believe the future of cybersecurity will be defined solely by collecting more telemetry, generating more alerts or detecting more attacks. We believe organisations should be able to determine, with certainty, what is permitted to execute within their own environments, preserving operational resilience before disruption can occur.
