According to the official press release, the UK government unveiled measures to protect AI models from hacking and sabotage, aiming to set a global benchmark and drive economic growth. This comes as the cyber security sector reports a 13% growth, now valued at nearly £12 billion. At CYBERUK, Technology Minister Saqib Bhatti announced two new codes of practice to enhance cyber security in AI and software, making products resilient against tampering and boosting confidence in AI across industries. In the past year, 50% of businesses and 32% of charities faced cyber breaches, with phishing being the most common attack.

The measures, outlined in the government’s Cyber Sectoral Analysis Report, show a rise in UK-based cyber security firms, strengthening national resilience and promoting sustainable growth. The initiative also aims to develop cyber skills, with a national competition for young people. NCSC CEO Felicity Oswald and Rosamund Powell from The Alan Turing Institute praised the practical support for developers and the promotion of a secure-by-design approach in AI. Additionally, the CHERI report introduces “magic chip” technology to prevent cyber-attacks, and new initiatives will professionalize the cyber security sector and foster cyber skills among young people. These actions are vital for ensuring cybersecurity, safeguarding data, and fostering global standards for cyber resilience.
